His research interests include historical geography and environmental history. He is specialised in historical landscape, particularly in its water component based on archive sources (old maps, land registers, chronicles). He is also concerned with spatial development and landscape changes in the hinterland of the fortress city of Olomouc at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
